WATERLOO STEAM • We have looked at the spacious concourse of the London & South Western Railway’s rebuilt Waterloo station recently, so now we turn our attention to the platforms themselves – and there were 21 of them to accommodate the main line and suburban services. Main line trains ran to Southampton and Bournemouth as well as to Exeter and beyond, while Waterloo became the last London terminus to see regular steam working until the Bournemouth line electrification in July 1967.
